Corten steel is valued for its distinctive, naturally weathered appearance. As the material is exposed to moisture and air, its surface gradually develops warm orange, red-brown and deeper earthy tones.

The weathering process varies with rainfall, humidity, exposure and local environmental conditions, so the final appearance may differ between pieces and installations. The patina develops over time rather than remaining a uniform painted finish.

During weathering, rust-coloured runoff may temporarily stain nearby concrete, stone, paving or other porous surfaces. Consider this when planning your installation, particularly beside light-coloured paving or finished outdoor surfaces.
